Office of Campus Sustainability Links MSU Researchers to Campus Operations and Surrounding Community

MSU students and faculty interested in an application for their environmental research should make one of their first stops to the Office of Campus Sustainability, located at 106 Olds Hall. There they’ll find Director Terry Link, a very convenient person to have around when doing research on an environmental issue.

As director of the Office of Campus Sustainability, Link serves as a conduit between researchers, organizations and companies both within and outside of the campus community. Says Link, "It's about reaching out to institutions in the community...and providing students with the guidance they need to help them learn."

In the past, Link has helped students and faculty contact organizations like the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Urban Options, the Central Michigan Sustainable Business Forum, and the Central Michigan Community Media Center.

Link also helps researchers find contacts within the MSU community. He has many connections with people in operations, from campus grounds to food services and can link faculty and students to them.

Link can also help those who wish to do environmental research but who don’t have a particular project in mind. "I have a whole list of projects," says Link, smiling. For example, he'd like to see research on the impact of using inkjet printers on campus. How many inkjets does MSU uses per year? What would recycling or reusing the printers' cartridges cost? Are there are any alternatives to inkjet printers that are more environmentally-friendly?

Students and faculty who would like more information about the Office of Campus Sustainability's services can email Link at link@msu.edu. "I'm here to help," says Link.
