Jiquan Chen

Dr. Chen s a University Distinguished Professor at Michigan State University (MSU) and Director of the Landscape Ecology and Ecosystem Science (LEES) Laboratory (https://lees.geo.msu.edu/). His research focuses on ecosystem and landscape processes and their interactions with climate change and human activities, with particular interests in ecosystem carbon, water, and energy fluxes, landscape ecology, forest fragmentation and edge effects, agricultural and grassland ecosystems, and coupled human–natural systems.

Chen received his Ph.D. in Ecosystem Analysis from the University of Washington. Before joining MSU in 2014, he served on the faculties of Michigan Technological University and the University of Toledo. His research integrates long-term field observations, ecosystem flux measurements, remote sensing, modeling, and interdisciplinary approaches to understand terrestrial ecosystem responses to environmental and socioeconomic change across spatial and temporal scales (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=fv8umPcAAAAJ&hl=en).

Chen also serves as Editor-in-Chief of Ecological Processes (https://link.springer.com/journal/13717) and is the founder and chief scientist of the US-China Carbon Consortium (USCCC). His research, mentoring, editorial leadership, and international collaborations have contributed broadly to ecosystem science, landscape ecology, and global-change research.
