BIOGRAPHY
Maria Guzman is a PhD student in Microbiology, Genetics & Immunology at Michigan State University. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biotechnology Engineering from Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla in Mexico. At MSU, she is a member of the Reguera Lab, where she investigates the metal interactions of conductive pili (nanowire-like structures) produced by the thermophilic bacterium Geothermobacter ehrlichii. Her research explores how these microbial adaptations can be applied for the sustainable extraction of valuable metals, such as cobalt and rare earth elements, contributing to innovative solutions for resource recovery.
