BIOGRAPHY
Justin Kirkpatrick is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics. His main research fields are the environment and natural resources, and public economics. He draws from the fields of applied microeconomics, industrial organization, public economics, and consumer marketing. His research studies the drivers of the grid transition from fossil fuels to renewables in two contexts. First, by examining the economics of renewables on the grid and how wholesale electricity prices and environmental costs change as intermittent renewables and battery storage are integrated into the grid. Second, by examining household-level decisions about energy efficiency and the decision to install rooftop solar. Kirkpatrick received a Ph.D. in Environmental Economics with a Certificate in College Teaching from Duke University, a MEM in Environmental Economics and Policy with a Certificate in International Development Policy from the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University, and a BS in Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning from the University of California, Davis.
