The Environmental Science and Policy Program (ESPP) is now accepting applications for the 2022 Fall Semester. ESPP offers three distinct programs for graduate students at MSU--a dual major doctoral program in environmental science and policy, a graduate specialization in environmental policy, and a graduate certificate in environmental and social systems modeling.
Environmental Science and Policy Dual Major Doctoral Degree
This dual major Ph.D. program provides students with knowledge about the diverse disciplines brought to bear on contemporary environmental problems. It is designed to provide an understanding of how various disciplines conceptualize environmental issues and how scientific information can be used in environmental decision-making and in creating environmental policy.
Eligible Applicants: Incoming Ph.D. students or students within the first two years of their doctoral program.
Graduate Specialization in Environmental Policy
The Graduate Specialization provides students with foundational skills and knowledge in environmental law, economics, and policy and an opportunity to gain substantive expertise in the fundamental aspects of environmental policy.
Eligible Applicants: Master’s students enrolled in an MSU graduate program.
Graduate Certificate in Environmental and Social Systems Modeling
This module of courses exposes students to cutting-edge techniques, including agent-based modeling, system dynamics modeling, participatory model-building, hierarchical linear modeling, and structural equation modeling. The coursework culminates in an interdisciplinary team-taught capstone seminar on case-based group research that will address a selected practical policy problem using an ensemble of appropriate modeling tools.
Eligible Applicants: Master’s students enrolled in an MSU graduate program.
The deadline for the 2022 Fall Semester is February 1, 2022. The deadline for the 2023 Spring Semester is October 15, 2022.
