Dr. Emilio Moran, students of ESP 802 (Human Systems and the Environment), and ESPP cordially invite you to join us for this spring's final class presentations. ESP 802 is a required course of the dual major doctoral degree program. Whether you are new to this course or have traversed its academic terrain before, this occasion presents an enriching opportunity to witness and engage with the diverse research endeavors undertaken by fellow ESPP students. Rachel Carson Distinguished Lecture: Pedro Sánchez “A Tropical Scientist’s Life-long Response to Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring”
April 18, 2024, 9:00 AM, Zoom
Dr. Sánchez is a leading tropical scientist and Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida after 14 years at Columbia University where he led the United Nations Hunger Task Force and the Millennium Villages Project. He has led path-breaking research on soil management for improved food production in the tropical world. In 2016 and 2022 President Obama and President Biden appointed him to the National Medal of Science Committee, respectively. For his exceptional accomplishments, he has received numerous prestigious honors and awards. For example, he is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, a fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, and a recipient of the World Food Prize, MacArthur Foundation Fellowship (“genius” grant), and a number of honorary Doctor of Science degrees. His lecture is titled “A Tropical Scientist’s Life-long Response to Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring”. Please do a very simple registration to receive the Zoom link.

Neogen Land Grant Prize | Deadline April 25, 2024
This $40,000 endowed award program seeks to advance the work of an MSU graduate student whose research has the potential to contribute to economic and scientific improvements in society, with a promise of practical applications that benefit U.S. economic interests. Applicants must be graduate students in good standing who have successfully passed their preliminary exam, have a track record of research accomplishment, and a project that is ripe for translation to impact through a commercialization/dissemination pathway.

Interdisciplinary Inquiry & Teaching Fellowship | Due April 26,2024
The IIT Fellowship Program is for doctoral students with an interest in interdisciplinary inquiry and undergraduate teaching. The program welcomes applicants from all colleges whose teaching areas are relevant to a college of public affairs.
